Crock Pot Recipes
What exactly is a crock pot? A crock pot has a heating element inside of a plastic or metal housing. Inside of that is a removable crockery insert. It is removable for ease of cleaning. You can now find liner in many stores that are inserted inside of the crock and are disposable. It just doesn't get any better than that!!
You will also hear the term "slow cooker". Anymore the terms are interchangeable but a slow cooker has the heating element on the bottom and a crock pot has it around the side. You may have to stir the ingredients in a slow cooker occasional to prevent sticking.
Cooking in a crock pot has many advantages.
You are able to assemble your meal in the morning, set it, and forget it. Forget it until you walk into your home, to find it filled with a pleasant aroma.
Fresh herbs retain their flavor (use sparingly). You may wait until near the end of the cooking time and do a taste test and add more as needed.
Nutrients are retained much better than traditional methods.
Almost any recipe can be adapted to use with your crock pot or slow cooker. Don't be afraid to experiment. Usually you will want to use about half the liquid that a recipe calls for.
I have found that when using milk or cream they tend to curdle so I add them during the last hour of cooking.
A good rule of thumb is to cook meats and vegetable about 4 hours on high or 8 hours on low. It is best not to remove the lid during cooking unless absolutely necessary.
I will be posting my favorite recipes and links to anything I think will be helpful. Thanks for stopping by and come back often to check for more crock pot recipes.
